Global Settings

Introduction

The Global Settings page defines your County or District header details, website domain name(s), SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), which promotes your site to Google and other search engines, and social media accounts.

Overview

Global Settings

The Name field not only describes your District or County, but is shown in the header of each web page.

Moto/Sub-Header allows specification of a message below the Name in the header.

The Sub-Domain will make-up your Scouts Online domain name. In the example above, the website domain name would be www.countydemo.scoutsonline.co.uk

The Full Domain field may hold your own registered domain name. You may register a domain name, with www.123-reg.co.uk or similar company, and point website traffic towards your Scouts Online website. Please contact us before your consider this, as we will need to perform some technical tasks on our side too.

Depending on your website package level, the Home Page Design field allows you to change the appearance of your website Home page and some of the content.

While you may not have a physical address, it is useful to specify your nearest Scout County/Area/campsite address. This is not only useful for people to contact you via post, but the address is used by search engines to identify where you are based geographically.

Address Line 1 may hold you HQ/campsite name or your street address.

Where line 1 is used for a HQ name, Address Line 2 should contain your street address.

The Locality and Town fields are used for merge fields and on the page footer to promote your website to search engines. They should therefore be populated with either Locality/Town or your village/County, whichever best describes your location to potential members searching for on the internet.

The County is not a mandatory field, but you may populate this where it is relevant to your address and hasn't already been used in the Town field.

Postcode is also used by search engines, to enable searches based on the first part or both parts of the postcode.

Map Latitude and Map Longitude may also be used by search engines.

The Main Contact field allows selection of a user, setup in User Management, to be assigned as the designated recipient of contact forms and application forms, via an email.

The Logo URL allows the Scout tick logo on the website header bar to be overridden with your District/County logo.

If you have your own neckerchief/scarf colours, these can be assigned here. The Neckerchief Designer can be used to create the colour scheme to enter into this field.

When populated, the Facebook Page, Twitter @Name, YouTube Channel, Instagram Name and/or Pinterest Name fields build a social media links bar at the top/middle of each page.

NB. The Facebook Page field should contain a Facebook 'Page' name. This is distinctly different from a Facebook Group or a personal page.

The Facebook Feed tick works alongside the Facebook Page field. When ticked, a Facebook Page timeline feed panel will be shown at the bottom of the home page.

The Twitter Widget ID field builds a Twitter timeline feed at the bottom of the home page. To build this ID, use the instructions HERE

If the Google Tracking ID field is populated, website page visits will be recorded on your Google Analytics account. You can get an ID after registering with Google for Google Analytics.

Google Calendar/Website Event Synchronisation: Depending on your site package level, you may have the ability for events created in a google calendar to be imported into your website to create/update events.

To setup Google Calendar integration, move to another browser tab, log into your scouting google account, open your calendar and find your Google "Calendar ID" in the settings page. Back in your Scouts Online website tab, enter the Google Cal Id and select the New Event Privacy level that you would like your events to imported with.

You can complete the setup and import your events, in Event Management.

The Last Cal Sync date will be updated after each successul synchronisation.

When the Captcha Reqd field is ticked, all contact forms show a Scouting phrase for site visitors to enter prior to submitting form details. This is designed to reduce spam emails.
