Dear fellow Scouter,

I hope you are well and enjoying getting back to Scouting. Despite seeing our Beavers and Cubs over zoom, it's amazing to see how much they've grown up.

It's been a challenging year for Scouting and I would like to say a big THANK YOU for your continued support. It is much appreciated and a pleasure to work with you.

I'd like to share with you some of the recent enhancements to the Scouts Online platform. As ever, most of the new features have been suggested by fellow Scouts Online website users, like you and I. Thank you to Aaron, Rod, Ed, Alan, Richard, Ben, Malcolm and many others for your great ideas. If you've got a good website idea, that could be of benefit to you and other Scouts Online users, please contact me.

If you know a Group, District, County, Region or Area that could benefit from a new website, I would appreciate it you recommend Scouts Online to them and mention that we still offer a free-trial.

Yours in Scouting,

Chris

Social Media Links
Social Media Links

A social media link button has been added to the right-hand side of the breadcrumb bar, just below the menu bar.

When clicked, the website visitor can share the page link on facebook, twitter, etc.

If you've added your own social media accounts and/or other website links, in Global Settings/Group Details, links to these will also be shown.

Coronavirus Message

As we moved to Amber level, the Coronavirus message was removed from the default home page text.

If your website has a personalised message, you may want to update or remove it locally.

The Page Management admin page has been re-designed. You can now:

  • Change main menu titles and disable menus.
  • Change the display order of drop-down menu lines.
  • Add sub-titles for each drop-down menu line.
  • Show private pages on menus, but ask users to login before the page will open. Just tick the Show If Private field.

members.scouts.org.uk

In March, The Scouts closed down the member website and replaced those pages with refreshed pages on the main www.scouts.org.uk website.

As you may know, your website contains links to Scout website pages for resources and information.

To help you keep your website up to date, we identified all members.scouts.org.uk links, across all Scouts Online websites, and updated the vast majority of these links for you, to point to new www.scouts.org.uk pages.

Where it wasn't possible to change a link for you, we contacted you individually for manual updating.

Nearest Group Lookup
Nearest Group

When the 2019 home page design is paired with the 2021 branding, a postcode field is displayed.

When a postcode is entered and the Go button clicked, the groups page will open, showing the nearest 10 groups on the map and in the groups list, sorted by distance.

Applies to packages 1 & 2 websites
Youth Application Form
Contact Form Sections

If a website visitor selects a Group or Unit in a Youth Application form, they can now only select the sections that the group/unit has.

Also, if a role (E.g. Beaver Scout) is selected, only groups with that section are shown.

This prevents Explorer Units from receiving application forms for Beaver Scouts.

OSM Waiting List Join Forms
OSM Waiting List Join Forms

If any of your groups has the OSM Parent Portal Features add-on for their Waiting List section, they will have a waiting list join form link URL for prospective members to use to apply.

If you add that website link address to the "Join Us Form URL" field in the group's, "Group" section, a [Join Us] button will appear in their Group Details page.

The Youth Application page and sectional Join Us pages will also show a direct link to the group's OSM waiting list form page, above the standard application form.

OSM Integration Updates

OSM have changed the way that Online Scout Manager authorises your Scouts Online website to share data has changed.

The legacy method will be discontinued in July 2021, so if you've not already done it, you will need to re-authorise your OSM Integration.

Help Grow the Community

The more websites we supply, the more the platform will evolve to the benefit of us all. We would therefore appreciate your help by recommending Scouts Online to your neighbouring Groups, your DC, other Districts and your County/Area/Region. Thank you to all of you that have already done this - it's much appreciated.

It would really help if you could add a link to www.ScoutsOnline.co.uk on your next District/County/Region/Area newsletter or mention Scouts Online to your Scouting friends. You could also follow the Scouts Online Facebook Page and Like/Share any posts of interest.

Scouts Online builds websites for Scout Groups, Units, Districts, Regions, Areas, Counties and Campsites. Group and Unit websites can also include OSM integration.

Thank you for your help in anticipation.
